Mention sources let Archive track posts that mention or tag an Instagram or TikTok handle without connecting that social account.
When to Use a Mention Source
Use a mention source when you want to monitor a brand handle without connecting the account through Instagram or TikTok. In Settings → Sources, it appears as an Instagram Mention or TikTok Mention rather than an Account.
Mention sources have more limited coverage than connected accounts. Archive tracks posts that mention or tag the handle, while Stories are captured only when the source is paired with a list of tracked creators. For the complete platform-by-platform breakdown, see What Types of User-Generated Content Does Archive Collect?
Add a Mention Source
Open Settings → Sources.
Click Add Source.
Choose Instagram Mention or TikTok Mention.
Enter one or more handles. Separate multiple handles with commas; the @ symbol is optional.
Click Add Source.
You can add up to 50 handles at once. Archive checks each handle independently, so valid handles can be saved even when another handle is refused.
Handle Validation
Archive leaves refused handles in the form so you can correct or retry them. A handle may be refused because it is invalid, cannot be found, belongs to a private account, is already connected to the workspace, or is being connected at that moment.
An Instagram account with too many tagged posts cannot be tracked without a connection. Use the Support link in the message so Archive can check whether the account can be approved for mention tracking.
Capture Coverage and Limits
Posts: Archive tracks posts that mention or tag the handle.
Stories: Stories are captured only when the mention source is paired with a list of tracked creators.
UGC limit: Content collected through a mention source counts toward the workspace's monthly UGC limit.
Start time: Collection begins when the source is added. Older posts are not pulled automatically.
Backfill Older Posts
To pull posts from before the mention source was added, open the ••• menu on the source row and select Backfill history. Choose a start date up to 60 days in the past. Backfilled posts count toward the monthly UGC limit when they are added.
For older dates, see How to Request a Historical Content Pull.
Remove a Mention Source
Open Settings → Sources, open the ••• menu beside the mention source, and select Remove. For the complete Sources-list controls, see Managing Sources in Settings.
Troubleshooting
If a TikTok detection source does not match the name shown on the post, see Understanding TikTok Mention Sources.
If matching content is missing, see Why Some Instagram or TikTok Posts Don't Appear in Archive.
