To successfully connect your Instagram account to Archive, you’ll need to follow a few important steps to ensure all required permissions and links are correctly set up.
1. Login With Your Facebook Personal Account
To begin the connection process, you must log in using your personal Facebook account. This personal account must have admin or full access to:
The Facebook Page linked to your Instagram account
The Meta Business Portfolio that owns both the Facebook Page and the Instagram account
⚠️ You cannot access Meta’s business tools without a personal Facebook account.
2. Verify the Business-Page-Instagram Link
Ensure the following hierarchy is correctly set up:
Business Portfolio
└── Facebook Page
└── Instagram Account
Your Instagram account must be connected to a Facebook Page
That Facebook Page must be owned by the Business portfolio to which you will grant Archive access
You must have full admin access to all of these assets
3. Grant the Correct Permissions to Archive
When connecting to Archive, you will be prompted to grant access to specific assets.
Here’s what to keep in mind:
Make sure the Facebook Page and Instagram account are part of the same Business Portfolio
If you select a Business Portfolio that does not own the correct Facebook Page, the connection will fail
You may be asked to log into Instagram directly if a new link between the account and Page is needed
4. Troubleshooting Common Issues
If the connection fails, it’s often due to one of the following:
Missing full access to one or more assets
Incorrect asset selection (e.g., choosing the wrong Business Portfolio)
The Instagram account is not linked to a Facebook Page
The Facebook Page is not linked to the correct Business Portfolio
Summary Checklist
✅ You have a personal Facebook account
✅ That account has full admin access to the Facebook Page and Business Portfolio
✅ Your Instagram account is linked to the correct Facebook Page
✅ The Facebook Page is owned by the same Business Portfolio
✅ You select the correct assets when prompted during setup
5. Verifying Your Access
Log in to Facebook and make sure you are viewing as your Page, not your personal profile.
Click on "Professional Dashboard" from the menu on the left.
Select "Page Access" from the same menu.
Click on your name; a pop-up should appear stating "This person has full control".
Navigate to your Meta Business Suite Settings
If you see multiple Business Portfolios, select the one linked to the Facebook Page you need.
Under the "Accounts" section, click "Pages" and find your name. Ensure the "Full control: Everything" setting is activated.
Click on "Instagram Accounts" under the "Accounts" section, select the relevant account, and check your name on the list. Again, make sure "Full control: Everything" is enabled.
Finally, select "People" under the "Users" section and verify that your name has "Full control: Everything" under Business Portfolio Access.
